Derby Stand 1-Bay Study

STUDY FOR ONE BAY OF THE DERBY STAND, DECEMBER 1988..

This study shows how the 'walk-through' podium has to be of a certain size to accommodate the large flows of pedestrians found on racecourses, and other Public Buildings. The formal question then becomes how one can design a giant columnar form while relating it to its intercolumniations and its entablature. This will be explored further in the Third part of the "Ordine Robotico": the "Talking Order".

This study will also figure in the site of the "Talking Column". It shows how, as is explained in the essay accompanying that part of Vitruvius's triad called Venustas, or beauty, the surface of the Ordine Robotico has become an entiree element, distanced from its electro-mechanical, "Working" interior. Our conclusion, in JOA, is simple.

Innovations: The JOA Toolbox: "Automatic Architecture".
